Coupled Hydromechanical Modeling and Assessment of Induced Seismicity at FWU: Utilizing Time-Lapse VSP and Microseismic Data

The objective of this work is to utilize integrated geomechanics, field vertical seismic profile (VSP) and microseismic data characterize the complex subsurface stress conditions at Farnsworth Unit (FWU). model based on a five-spot sector extracted from primary geomechanical model. well injection pattern characterized by extensive reservoir characterization data, such logs, cores borehole geophone facilitate detailed examination changes event occurrences. study utilizes volumes acquired 13-10A. successfully provided snapshots behavior distinct times. use VSP direct indirect estimates dynamic occurring in overburden, underburden rock formations. In order illuminate regions identify rocks that have undergone inelastic failure, occurrences were utilized. Microseismic activity has been detected FWU; further its locations, timing, magnitude was needed deduce nature changing state. results revealed events modeled within Morrow B formation. Moment magnitudes same for reservoir, suggesting suitability showed computed moment insignificant warrant safety concerns. findings usefulness coupled hydromechanical models predicting associated with CO2 injection. knowledge gained will serve as guideline industries planning undertake underground storage, changes.
